Selma + Ryan | Married

I had two revelations yesterday.  First, women are just as bad as men when it comes to ogling an attractive group of the opposite sex walking down the street (and yelling out random statements to them).  And second, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more secure walking around any neighbourhood in my life!  I think my neck is a little more sore than normal on a wedding day from all the time I had to spend looking up.

It was another amazing day for the bigdayfoto team.  Selma and Ryan were so welcoming and gave us a lot of time to truly capture every part of their day.  And as the Justice of the Peace said during the service, Selma and Ryan must have an in with Mother Nature as we couldn’t have asked for a better day weather-wise.  We did all of the pictures in and around Rockwood Park and it was absolutely stunning.  The water was perfectly still.  Sun was setting.  And it was the perfect temperature.

Since it was a Friday wedding, everything happened a little later than normal so I did put up a few pictures on facebook as I downloaded and backed up my images knowing it would really be Saturday before I did this post.  Be sure to click the link and see some picture from Selma and Ryan’s big day.

But because no post is complete without pictures, here are a few more that tell the story of their big day.  Selma and Ryan opted to do a first look.  We love these for many reasons and many of our couples are choosing to do them.  We love being there to capture those first expressions as the groom sees his beautiful bride for the first time and as the bride sees her handsome groom.  We chose a fairly secluded spot in Rockwood Park.  We had Selma waiting on the bridge for Ryan.  He drove up in his Dad’s Corvette, parked and walked to meet his gorgeous bride.  Given Ryan’s anticipation I’m not sure how he managed to walk at such a controlled pace.

Selma and Ryan, thank you so much for having the bigdayfoto team be a part of your big day!  You were gracious and kind and wonderful to work with.   We look forward to catching up with you guys soon at the reveal!

B_E_A_U_T_I_F_U_L!!!!

Hello Jackson! So happy to finally meet you!

You may remember in July I photographed my good friends for a maternity session.  Well, about 9 days ago, Jackson arrived.  I was in another province.  Then I was going visit and Hurricane Irene foiled my plans.  Third time I tried I had to reschedule.  This session had been on the books the whole time so no matter what I knew I was going to meet him today.  Worth the wait.  Perfect in every way.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I’m going to let this image do all the talking.  I know a few people are waiting to see this.  Thank you to Jenn, Rob and Jackson for being my first newborn session.  I couldn’t be happier that it was for the three of you!  Thank you for your support throughout the years.  I hope you like your sneak peek!!

Erica + Troy | Married

It was another wonderful wedding for the bigdayfoto team. Our couple were a lot of fun to be around and were very generous with their time giving us plenty of opportunity for some fantastic pictures. It’s times like this that I wish I had Beaver’s pictures with me to post because I saw some pretty amazing stuff on the back of his camera today! But you will just have to wait for a few of them to end up on facebook before you get to see them!

Our couple was wonderful. Troy was anxious for 2:00 to come and Erica made it worth the wait! She was absolutely beautiful as she walked down the aisle with her dad. You could see the happiness in both their faces. The service was performed by Father Mike at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I hate to pick favourites, but I do have to say that when it comes to churches, it is always a pleasure to photograph weddings here. Father Mike is so gracious and the church, so beautiful. Beaver and I practically high-five one another when we hear we are shooting a wedding there!

After the ceremony we crossed to road to the Rothesay Commons for family and group pictures. Then it was off to Kinghurst Park (fast becoming one of my favourite places) followed by a ball field by Renforth Wharf. We had a lot of time and our couple were so great about trying many locations, poses and camera angles. We had a lot of fun. And now my dilemma. Which picture to post? I really just want to post one but I can’t pick just one. But I have five. Is that up from my last post? I had to check. It is. Oh well, my plan was good in theory. I took 860 shots….you tell me, how do I pick just one?

First of all, I’m a sucker for kids in the wedding party. Especially when everyone lets them be kids. They don’t have to stand still or be quiet. They get to be who they are. This little girl was adorable. She was one of two flower girls who sprinkled rose petals down the aisle. Here she is picking some up again to save for later.

Here was just a quick snap of Erica. Likely she didn’t even know that the camera was pointed at her. I think that’s why I love it so. Just a natural picture of our beautiful, beautiful bride!

Beaver was taking their picture at this point and I was shooting off from the side. I love this shot because I can see how happy they are! Just look at their eyes. Happy and in love. One of my favourites of the day!!

And here I just asked them to turn towards me. I’m not sure what’s up with all my pictures being in black and white today…I was just in a black and white mood I guess. But this next picture, just begged to be in black and white. Again, I love how happy they are together!! (I love my job!)

And finally, one last picture. I just loved this location when we pulled in. The bench jumped out at me. So we did a few shots at the bench by the water. Highlighting all that is so beautiful at this park in Rothesay!

Guest Blogger – bigdayfoto bride-to-be Tasha

I missed a pre-wedding session last night.  Happens often.  My life and my schedule are not conducive for me to get out to them, so Beaver does most of them without me.  So this morning, when I found a little note from our bride-to-be in my inbox I was pleasantly surprised.  Here is what it said:

I wrote a short recap for my internet bride friends about our engagement shoot today. Just though I would send a copy to you so you could see the photos in context.

Attached was her story.  At this point, I had not seen the pictures that Beaver had posted of the couple, but I had seen a picture that showed just how foggy it was and I heard reports that chocolate may have been involved.  I read the story and grinned from ear to ear.  I’ll let Tasha tell you the story in her own words.  Reprinted with permission from our wonderful bride-to-be.

He Wrote Her Name Upon the Sand…

I had imagined the perfect engagement shoot. You know the photos on the beach with the beauty of the ocean background. Us walking hand in hand, lovingly smiling at each other as the sun sets.

When I woke up today I realized that this was not in the cards. It was too cloudy and overcast. Beaver was willing to reschedule, but I had already booked a hair and makeup appointment and we were so excited we decided to go ahead.  So on to Plan B. Being a perfectionist, I had already decided on a beach picnic if necessary. I got a picnic basket and filled it with fruit, animal crackers, and chocolate in addition to roses and candles.

As I created the picnic setting on the beach, I realized the fog was so thick we could not see the waves and the sand was too wet to stroll on the beach as I had hoped. Beaver was so wonderful at adapting to these challenges. He was patient while we played games when eating animal crackers and when I requested my fiancé write my name in the sand. Beaver laughed with us when we were being silly in the water and gave us directions when we were unsure. He put us at ease and made us comfortable enough to smile, play, and truly enjoy the experience of being engaged.

Although we did not have the sunset or even decent weather, we had a fun and romantic experience filled with smiles, kisses, and laughs. It was exactly as I had always dreamed it would be!

Thank you Tasha (and Shannon!) for sharing your story.  I love your outlook and I’m glad that you guys went ahead with your engagement shoot. I know your big day will be awesome because there will be nothing that gets in the way of it!  I’m looking forward to June 2012 already!  And because no post is ever complete without a picture, here is one of my faves from yesterday.  To see more be sure to check out our Facebook page.
