What a great time I had getting to know these two at a recent shoot. And they had such great ideas. Here is a sample of what they were looking for…..

While yesterday marked my last wedding of the 2012 wedding season, the bigdayfoto team marches on with yet another wedding today, so it’s a two-for-one wedding weekend here on the bigdayfoto blog!!  While you can tell fall is around the corner with the crisp cool mornings, Jennifer and Jeremy’s wedding day very much reminded us that even in the Maritimes, late August brings beautiful weather.  For most of the day, the cloud cover acted as the most amazing soft box and kept the +29ºC degree temperature from feeling unbearable.  As usual, I met up with the boys.  They were so much fun and I loved that Jeremy chose to get ready at his parents home.  I love the sense of family that comes with that and how, on this day of close friends and family, we get welcomed in like old friends!  Since it was so hot I was kind to the boys and kept it casual for most of the pictures and only made them put on their suit coats near the end.  Not good for business to have a groom pass out from heat exhaustion before the wedding!  Ha, ha!!  Beaver and Paul were with the girls and Jennifer was nothing short of stunning!  The wedding was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rothesay.  We love shooting there for two reasons:  First, it is beautiful!  Second, Father Mike is one of the sweetest, kindest people we know.  Well, weren’t we surprised to learn that Father Doug from St. Pius was going to be officiating!  It seemed to make no difference.  He was just as kind as Father Mike and performed a beautiful ceremony!  Portraits were done at the Rothesay Commons and Kinghurst Park. Reception at the beautiful Riverside Golf Club.

I just love this next photo!  One of my favourites from the day because every time I look at it I’m brought right back to that moment and it makes me smile!!

Holidays around here are always just a bit slow for me so the mix that up a little today, Rachelle and I took a drive to beautiful St Andrews “By the Sea” to vist a minute with her sister and look for some photo opportunities. St Andrews is indeed a beautiful place mid summer perhaps not so much March 31! But I did get out of the car and snap a few pictures. Beautiful day for a drive, hoping everyone enjoyed Easter Sunday 2013.

I just got in from another wonderful wedding.  What a great couple!  Beaver had done all the preliminary stuff so this was actually the first time I got to meet the happy couple!!  Although I have to say I felt like I knew Diana from all our email exchanges.  :)  I always say I can tell whether or not I’ll like a bride-to-be by the way she emails.  That first exchange, looking to set up a meeting always tells me a lot.  And right from the beginning, I knew this was going to be a great day with a fun couple.  Jenn couldn’t join us so Paul came down from Moncton to help us out.  He brings great energy and it’s always a lot of fun when he tags along.  We tried a few different things today which is always exciting and we were allowed to shoot at the beautiful Harbourfront Residences.  I love when we bring something different and make each event unique. 

And since I know none of you come here for what I ramble on about….here are some pictures from the day!

As usual, I started my day with the boys!  I always try to grab a nice portrait of the groom first. These guys made my job so easy.  I was a little early and they were dressed and ready to go!  A few quick shots and we were done!  Thanks so much guys!!  Next it was off to the church.

Many Saint John residents will recognize this as THE Cathedral.  Honestly, it was my first time shooting a real wedding in here.  Many moons ago, long before I was a part of team bdf, Beaver arranged for a mock wedding and we photographed it here.  It is a beautiful location.  Next it was off to Rockwood Park for some photographs!

 Aren’t these two adorable?  They were happy, in love and so much fun to be around.  It is couples like this that make our job so much easier to do! 

I think in this next shot I was supposed to be focusing on Diana and the reflection of her in the water, but I loved the whole image with Joshua standing off to the side.

I’m just getting home from a most awesome wedding!!  This wedding had the whole recipe for a great day.  A happy couple.  A great family we have already photographed one wedding for (not to mention that one of the bridesmaids and one of the groomsmen are a bdf couple as well!).  Beautiful weather.  And lots and lots of fun!  The entire day took place out on the Kingston Penninsula.  Beaver and Jenn scoped out some locations, talked to a few neighbours and set up a plan.  Darcy and Tyler opted for a first look.  We love that.  For one, it lets the bride and groom get right to the party after the ceremony.  Also, it is such a special moment when the bride and groom see each other for the first time.  I love being there to capture that.   In fact, I was getting all misty myself in preparation! 

As I am going through the pictures to select for the post, I am smiling at the memories.  Even though Darcy and Tyler had a first look, Tyler’s eyes still filled with emotion as his bride started down the aisle.  And as Darcy walked up the aisle, her eyes were cast downward, knowing the moment she looked up the tears would start to flow for her too.  I love how the pictures really do tell the story. 

All in all we had a great time and I think you can tell in the pictures, so did Darcy and Tyler.  Thanks so much guys for having us be a part of your big day and I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!!

Beautiful Bride!  Beautiful Location!  Beautiful Light!  One of my faves from the day!I just love Darcy’s smile here!  So happy!  And such a beautiful bride!

Beaver was shooting the group portraits here but I had to sneak a few shots.  What a great looking bunch!!  (Past bigdayfoto bride and groom Michelle and Jeff are there too!)

Darcy’s bouquet was beautiful and made a great backdrop for the rings.  I think Tyler’s ring weighed two pounds.  Largest wedding band I’ve seen since my hubby’s!!

Darcy’s very crafty sister did a lot of work with the wedding including these decorations.  (And a quick thank you too her…while at the ceremony she was making sure I had something to drink!  Thanks for being so thoughtful!! It was a hot one!!)

I notice a lot of brides do this – keep looking down so you don’t start to cry coming up the aisle.   I just love the emotion!!

You may kiss your bride!!

It was over a year ago when we first met Natasha and Shannon.  I remember talking to them about their big day and all their plans and it really sounded like a day the bigdayfoto team would want to be a part of.  Time passed, and we never heard back.  We were a little disappointed because, I have to admit, there are some couples that we meet that we just feel like we HAVE to be a part of their big day.  I felt that way about Natasha and Shannon.  Then I got this email from Natasha:

“We got sick and then work got crazy and then I got a little cold feet about making such a huge decision so far in advance. I was like “I love these photographers but… they are the first ones we have ever met and what if, what if, what if.” We had other meetings with photographers but we were like Beaver does this and Penny does that. We are ready to commit and just be happy that yes- we did find the right photographer on the first meeting! Lucky us! And when I just realized it had been so long when I looked on the date on the email, Shannon said they probably think we forgot about them. I am like what? No! I look at their pictures everyday but I realize that you guys wouldn’t know that. So thank you for being patient with me, the most indecisive person ever. Imagine me picking a dress!!!”

I was so happy they chose us to be a part of their big day.  The day was beautiful in every way, from the happy couple, to the beautiful weather, everything was perfect!  As usual, I showed up to photograph the guys getting ready and Beaver (with Jenn) spent the day with the girls.  We met up at the Trinity Anglican Church. It was my first time photographing there.  It is beautiful (albeit dark!) and made for stunning photographs.  Natasha and Shannon had some quiet time together right after the ceremony as they took a horse and buggy ride around the uptown.  Then it was off to Rockwood Park for pictures.  The reception was at the Delta and Wendi did a great job with the decor and theme. 

All in all, it was a great day and a great way to kick off the summer for the bigdayfoto team.  Here are a few pictures to highlight Natasha and Shannon’s big day!

I love an emotional groom.  You can just see the tear forming in his eye as Natasha (looking STUNNING) walks up the aisle to him.

The bigdayfoto team was very excited to be asked back by the organizers of the 11th Annual East Indian Charity Dinner and Auction to photograph their event.  While this is a charity event, raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society, it is also one of the hottest tickets in town.  It sells out every year and raises tens of thousands of dollars each year for the charity.  I know we all feel good when we do our part for charity, especially those charities that are very close to our hearts, but we also know that it is Mrs. Kumar’s food that keeps everyone coming back!  Once again Mrs. Kumar and her band of loyal volunteers out did themselves.  In fact I’m still daydreaming about the Meen Kozhambu and the Malaidar Unday.  So good!!   My favourite part of Dr. Kumar’s speech was when he commented on how he was pretty uneffected by the chaos at his home this year as his new grandbaby seemed to distract him from it all.  Maybe with that bit of information we can all keep our fingers crossed that there will be a 12th Annual East Indian Charity Dinner and Auction.

I just realized I’m a little behind in my gallery posting!!  I blame Christmas and this terrible head cold I’ve had since the new year started!!  What I want you to realize as you go through this particular gallery is that our lovely bride and handsome groom are standing in the dirt, in the bay, amongst the seaweed BEFORE their ceremony!  We love when couples do a first look, but we love it even more when they trust us enough to have a lot of fun with it.  (No only did we do the couple shots, but we all did all the images with the bridal party and family before the ceremony.)  I think the images Beaver captured are spectacular.  And after the ceremony, the couple immediately went to their reception to party with their friends and family!  Enjoy this look at Jennifer and Jeremy’s beautiful St. Andrew’s wedding.
